Machine and reviewed translations
On this page
Every translation in ResilientLang is in one of four states. The editor shows the state as a word, not only as a colour.
| State | Meaning | Can a machine run change it? |
|---|---|---|
| Untranslated | No translation yet. Visitors see your original text. | Yes. It gets a machine translation. |
| Machine | Made by a translation engine. Nobody has checked it. | Yes, if you ask for a forced re-run. |
| Reviewed | A machine translation that a person approved. | No. It is never sent to the engine again. |
| Manual | A person typed it or edited it. | No. It is never replaced. |
Why this matters#
Machine translation is fast and cheap, and it can be wrong. It can pick the wrong sense of a word, mishandle names, or sound odd in your industry. Visitors see the machine text as soon as you publish it. Nothing in the product turns a machine translation into a checked one.
Check these first: headlines, buttons, prices, legal and safety text, and anything that a mistake would make costly.
How a translation becomes reviewed#
- In the editor, select rows and choose Mark as reviewed.
- With review turned on for a site, a translator's suggestion waits until a reviewer approves it. The approved text is saved as Reviewed. See Reviewers and translators.
Editing#
When you edit a translation yourself, it becomes Manual. Editing or reviewing a string also clears its quality flags. See Quality flags.
Search engines#
Pages with too little translated text are hidden from search engines. See Thin pages.
Defaults that are not decided#
- The Shopify sync sends machine translations by default. The owner approved that on 2026-10-28 and can switch it to reviewed only.
- Which translation engines are offered at launch: OPEN.
- Review is required by default in the review workflow, so a translator's suggestion waits for a reviewer.
