Word packs and your own provider keys
Word packs#
There are two packs, both a one-time payment and not a subscription:
- Extra words on the included engine: $10 per 500,000. These add to your plan's words.
- Premium-engine words (DeepL, AI language models): $24 per 100,000. Your plan's own words always use our standard engine; premium words are a separate balance that is used only for the premium engines, and they never use up your plan's words.
When the premium balance is too small for a job, the job simply uses the standard engine and your plan's words. Nothing is billed automatically.
A pack counts only in the allowance window in which you bought it. When that window ends, the unused words are gone. The owner approved this rule on 2026-10-28 (decision D49).
Only the account owner can start a checkout. The owner buys a pack on the billing page, which opens the payment provider's hosted page. No live payments exist yet: OPEN.
Your own provider key#
If you have an account with a translation provider, you can give the product your key for that provider. Then:
- Your text goes to that provider under your own agreement with them.
- The words are counted for your information, but they never use up your allowance and are never blocked by it.
- Your key is stored encrypted and is never shown again.
The product has engines for DeepL, Google Cloud Translation, a language-model service and an open translation model. Which providers are offered at launch, and the page where you enter your key, are OPEN.
Which is cheaper?#
We cannot say. Provider prices change. If you translate a lot, compare the provider's price with our pack prices ($10 per 500,000 on the included engine; $24 per 100,000 on premium engines) yourself.
If your key stops working#
A key that is refused, out of credit or blocked by the provider stops the job. The remaining strings are marked with an engine error, and your original text stays on the page. Fix the key or the provider account, then run the job again.
